‘24 Artist of the Year Sarah Page Unveils New Mural at Grayton Central Parking Facility
WALTON COUNTY, Fla. – Sept. 16 – Sarah Page, the 2024 Walton County Artist of the Year, recently unveiled her final project titled “Grayt Blue Heron.” The mural was commissioned by Walton County Tourism and joins a collection of previous Artists of the Year pieces on display inside the new Grayton Central parking facility.
Page drew inspiration from Walton County’s natural environment, with the blue heron serving as the centerpiece to reflect the area’s wildlife and coastal beauty.
“Great blue herons are painted in a very still, stagnant standing pose, which is how you typically see them in the wild,” Page said. “And so, I thought it would be really cool and fun to portray them in a totally different way. Like, maybe this bird is about to take flight, and that could symbolize hope for the future, or a transition into something greater.”
As Artist of the Year, Page continues to give back to the community through her public art projects, including murals featured at the Inlet Beach Underpass, Watersound Town Center Pavilion and downtown DeFuniak Springs. She also participates in the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County’s Art in Public Spaces program, helping bring vibrant works to the region while inspiring residents and visitors alike.
Walton County Tourism’s Artist of the Year program showcases local artists, promoting the selected artist’s work throughout the year through a variety of publicity opportunities and events. The winner also receives an award of $4,000 in exchange for a piece of artwork that is displayed in Walton County.
The 23rd Artist of the Year will be announced at the Walton County Tourism Annual Meeting on Oct. 30.
